Contact Alfa Medic General hospital to schedule your free consultation, to discuss liposuction, its benefits, the procedure and your desired results.

Liposuction, also called lipoplasty and liposculpture is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries for men and women all over the world. First introduced in the 80’s, and invented by Italian gynecologist, Dr. Giorgio Fischer and his son, liposuction was not originally applied for cosmetic purposes. This happened just a few years later, when Dr. John Gerard Illouz and Dr. Pierre Fournier improved the method of liposuction and presented it as a proven effective method of body sculpting. Today, plastic surgeons and physicians all over the world use liposuction. Liposuction removes excess fat around the waist, back, thighs, knees (but not behind), ankles, abdomen, chest, upper arms, face and neck, and dramatically reduces visibility of cellulite. For many, these areas generally do not respond well to exercise and a healthy diet, so liposuction is the only way that they can eliminate the excess fat in order to improve the overall contour of the treated area.

Liposuction at Alfa Medic General Hospital

If you choose to undergo liposuction, your first step is to talk with an experienced and qualified doctor who will evaluate your health, determine where exactly on your body there are large amounts of fat, and assess the condition of your skin. This is all done to make sure that you are ready for the procedure.

During the conversation, the doctor will also consider other methods of shaping the body, and the best method to achieve satisfactory results.

Since your health and your safety is our primary concern, your doctor will present you with specific instructions on what is the best way to prepare for the liposuction. This includes basics related to your eating habits, smoking, and taking or avoiding iron supplements, vitamins and certain medications. You will also be informed about how to maintain the results of the treatment while recovering from the intervention.

Before liposuction

As with most cosmetic surgical procedures, the ideal candidate for liposuction should be in relatively good mental and physical health. Mentally, the client needs to be a stable person with realistic expectations for the procedure. Physically, the candidates should not be obese and they should have a well-balanced diet.

If a person gained or lost weight dramatically before surgery, fat removal may not be adequate, and may also give disproportionate results. Good skin elasticity helps after removing fat in the target area, since the skin is better adapted and the line is more even. If the patient has poor elasticity of the skin, excess skin can be removed as an additional surgical procedure upon the patient’s request. Liposuction is not a solution for those with certain health problems such as diabetes, poor blood circulation (which will slow down the healing process), or heart or lung disease.

Your safety is of vital importance, because of that your doctor at Alfa Medic General Hospital may delay the surgery until you are healthy enough for surgery. Your doctor will also inform you that in one day, he can optimally remove up to 4-5 liters of fat (aspirate). Additional liposuction procedures should be scheduled in intervals of at least 2-4 weeks, if the patient is in relatively good health. This period may be increased if the patient is not in good health.

Liposuction surgery

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia. The procedure usually takes about an hour or more, depending on the number of areas that need to be treated.

The most common form of liposuction involves discrete incisions in the targeted areas that are less than half a centimeter, through which a plastic surgeon inserts a cannula, which is connected to a suction machine, permanently removing unwanted subcutaneous fat from the desired area. Anesthetic lidocaine treats the area during the procedure and for some time after, while other components of the liquid make it easier to remove fat and reduce the amount of blood loss, as well as decrease bruising.

Liposuction post-op

Results will be seen almost immediately following your liposuction at Alfa Medic General Hospital. Patients will be able to walk the day after the surgery, and will be able to return to daily activities within five to seven days. Swelling and bruising will calm down within 2 weeks, and in order to accelerate healing and reduce swelling, you will be wearing specially designed undergarments. It is recommended that you avoid strenuous physical exercise for at least 3 weeks after surgery.
